Manually Downloading Firmware Update Files
At the time of writing, Amazon does not delete Kindle Firmware Update files from their servers, meaning that it is possible to download any firmware version, simply by changing the link.
Installing Updates
You can easily install downloaded Kindle Updates
- Place your Kindle in Airplane Mode
- Plug your Kindle into your PC
- Copy the downloaded update file to the root of your Kindle (the same location as the
documents
folder) - Eject and unplug your Kindle
- On your Kindle open
settings
, then from thetop-right menu

are not included in the table as they require different firmwares based on serial numbers, please see the Amazon page for those models
This table contains the last jailbreakable firmware for each Kindle as a link. Note that Kindles which cannot be jailbroken (>PW5
) or particularly old devices (<PW3
) simply have links to the latest firmwares at the time of writing. Always make sure what you’re downloading before you update!
